EPIC OCIANIC INSTALLATION
WHERE DID THE IDEA OF A JUNGLE COME FROM?
[STUDIO CAINE] Well, previously we had created an ocean landscape and that went down a storm so it was a challenge to top that. We explored a load of concepts, we wanted something that really came alive or gave a sense of grandeur.
They chose and debated between a Jungle setting and a giant Stained Glass installation. The stained glass mockup showed religious imagery but for the real thing we planned on making our own ‘less church-based’ illustrations. Lit up at night, it would have looked spectacular but after much debate they decided to go with the Jungle setting.
WAS IT TRICKY PUTTING SO MANY ELEMENTS TOGETHER AT THAT SCALE?
Not tricky, just labour intensive – getting the lighting, textures, shadows and perspectives right. Once the design was finished then came the panelling which was challenging as every panel was a different size. Well – i say challenging because even at this late stage the client kept asking for design additions, each time this meant a whole bunch of new panels. We didn’t mind though, the extra design hours are what keeps us off the streets and in our posh shoes. Ultimately they got what they wanted, it looked truly incredible.
